Crypto Trends: Warren Buffett Alarms And The End of Epoch

Warren Buffet is all over the news in May 2025. The legend of the traditional financial world is about to retire and step down as a multinational conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway CEO. More than that, the Oracle of Omaha shares concerns over the future of the US dollar. What does it mean to the crypto market? 

First of all, Warren is known for his negative and very conservative stance on cryptocurrencies. At the beginning of the year, he called crypto “rat poison” that the firm will never have a position in. On another occasion, he called Bitcoin a “gambling token” without “any intrinsic value”. On multiple occasions, he reported that Bitcoin would eventually “come to a bad ending”. 

Warren is also known for other conservative atrocities. According to the Entrepreneur, the Wall Street legend was using a flip phone until 2020. This being said, Warren’s conservative stance did not prevent Berkshire Hathaway from becoming one of the long-term-focused investors of Apple Inc. Are there striking parallels to the story with the crypto assets?

So far, there is no proof that Berkshire Hathaway is or plans to invest in crypto. On the surface, Warren Buffet walks the talk. 

But here are 3 facts that indicate that the truth is more complicated and this might be about to change at least for Berkshire Hathaway. 

Fact 1. Berkshire Hathaway already invests in crypto indirectly

Indirect investments are reported on multiple occasions. For example, Berkshire holding company has exposure to a firm called Jefferies Financial Group Inc. that actively propose to hedge against inflation with cryptocurrency and holds a stake in the world’s largest spot exchange-traded Bitcoin fund, reports Yahoo Finance. 

Another example is the firm’s investments in the Bank of America shares that also have spots in Bitcoin ETFs. Earlier, Fortune reported on Berkshire Hathaway’s two funding rounds participation in the Brazilian digital bank Nu which has launched the cryptocurrency platform.

Fact 2. Crypto outperforms Berkshire Hathaway

The math speaks for itself. Berkshire might outperform similar financial firms or popular indexes like S&P with its 20% compound annual gain from early years to 2024. Warren had the best track record in traditional financial markets, according to Business Insider.

On the other hand, Berkshire has hugely underperformed against Bitcoin. For example, in May 2020 Bitcoin was trading at around $8000 while in May 2025 it is more than 10 times that. Researchers report that putting just 1% of the Berkshire portfolio could have increased profits by over 25%.

Fact 3. The market situation is alarming, says the Oracle

On May 4, Warren Buffet shared concerns about the future of the US dollar, warning about fiscal recklessness and its negative influence on the value of the currency. The firm reportedly increased exposure to other currencies as a result of “alarming” government actions, shared Warren.
